Iyengar Yoga Workshop with Gulnaaz Dashti
May 18-20
Gulnaaz Dashti joins us from the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India. Gulnaaz started Yoga at the Pune Institute (RIMIY) under the guidance of B.K.S. Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar and Prashant Iyengar in 1990, when Ali Dashti, her brother, insisted that she should join.
She started teaching the beginners classes in 1998, and has been regularly teaching and assisting in the Medical and General Classes ever since. Gulnaaz assisted Geeta Iyengar at the 2010 Iyengar Yoga Convention in Portland.
Today, Gulnaaz is one of the Senior teachers at the Institute. where she teaches and assists in general, ladies and therapeutic classes . This is a very special opportunity to study with a teacher from the source of Iyengar Yoga.
To participate in the workshop you must have at least 2 years of Iyengar Yoga instruction and be able to practice some form of Sarvangasana and Sirsasana. This workshop is not suitable for those working with major limitations or injuries.
The class timings are as follows:
Friday, May 18 9:00—11:00am, 6:00 – 8:00pm
Saturday May 19 12:00 – 3:00, 5:00-7:00pm
Sunday May 20 12:00 – 3:00pm

Knee Care Four Week Series
with Nuvana

If you have experienced knee pain in your practice or are struggling with a chronic knee problem, then you know how fragile the knee joint can be. Learn how the correct alignment of your feet with upper and lower legs can help keep your knees safe. Students will practice familiar poses with focus on this alignment. Explore how to use props to help build strength in the legs and support the alignment of the knee joint. Find out which poses can actually help your knees become strong, stable and healthy.
This class is open to all students. Cost of the four sessions is $50 or you can drop in at the regular drop in price. This four week series is excluded from the unlimited classes.

Vinyasa 4 Week Series

Vinyasa is a method of practicing poses in a set sequence, such as sun salutations. In this class we will explore yogasanas with dynamic movement. Poses from several categories including standing, seated, forward extensions, backward extensions, and abdominal will be included. We will also do some yoga kurunta (ropework) and rolling sequences.
This series is appropriate for those with a minimum of one year Iyengar yoga experience and an understanding of how to use the props.
This workshop series is excluded from the unlimited arrangement. Also, no makeups.

Exploration of Inversions
with Jen Shonk

Inversions benefit all of the systems of the body, they restore mental balance and emotional stability. The heart of this workshop will be salamba sarvangasana, shoulder stand, its variations and modifications.
We will first examine the hints, cautions and benefits of inversions as described by B.K.S. and Geeta Iyengar. Part of the workshop will focus on the preliminary stages of sirsasana, head stand.
Students with at least 6 months of regular yoga class and who have learned shoulder stand are welcome to attend. Experienced students will also benefit from the material covered in this workshop.
Not appropriate for students with cervical spine problems, glaucoma and menstruating women.

Pranayama Workshop

Pranayama is translated as breath, life, vitality, or energy. Ayama means length, expansion, or restraint. Pranayama refers to the extension of breath and its control. It is the fourth limb of the eight limbs of yoga, and its practice strengthens the respiratory system, calms the nervous system, and prepares the practitioner for meditation.
This workshop will cover basic pranayamas. Participants must have completed six months of Iyengar classes.

Iyengar Yoga Workshop With Rebecca Lerner October 5-7, 2012
Join us for an Rebecca’s fifth visit to Sunset Yoga Center. You can register for the teacher training workshop, the Iyengar Yoga workshop or both events.
In the Iyengar Yoga workshop we will work in-depth with all of the categories of asana. We will also explore yoga philosophy and pranayama. The asana workshop is open to all students with at least one year of Iyengar Yoga experience.
Sharpen your teaching skills and refine the art of teaching in the teacher training workshop. The teacher training workshop is open to all Iyengar Yoga students who have completed a teacher training course with a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher.
Rebecca Lerner is co-director/owner of the Center for Well-Being in Lemont, Pennslyvania and an Intermediate Senior I Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor. A devoted practitioner since the late ’70s, Rebecca is an IYNAUS assessor and conducts workshops nationally as well as teacher training programs. Her expertise is the ability to guide her students deeply into the poses in a fresh, insightful and meaningful way. She has a gentle yet dynamic teaching style that brings each student a heightened yogic experience. June 2010 will be her 6th trip to Pune studying with the Iyengars. Rebecca’s inspiration is a reflection of her years of study with Mary Dunn.
