Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation with Gabe Fields and Julie Burtis
This 4-session group will provide an introduction to the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation. Each class will include instruction in practicing mindfulness through classic sitting meditation as well as through guided movement. Overall, the focus of the class will be on cultivating presence of mind through attending to the body, the breath, and the thinking process. Throughout the class series, attention will be given to the rationale for mindfulness practice, and how to approach common obstacles that arise in practice. Each class will include some time for questions and discussion.
Gabe Fields, LCSW, is a clinical social worker who has been practicing mindfulness meditation for over 20 years, including 10 years of residency at San Francisco Zen Center. He currently works as a psychotherapist at the Portland VA Medical Center. specializing in mindfulness-based therapies.
Julie Burtis, DPT, is a physical therapist and Iyengar Yoga instructor. She has practiced meditation for 20 years, including seven years of residency at Dharma Rain Zen Center and San Francisco Zen center. She works at PT 360, a private outpatient orthopedic clinic in Portland.
When: Sunday evenings 6:00-7:30pm, September 21st through October 12th.
Fees: $80 for 4-class series.
